Experience

What are my professional qualifications?

From June 2014 to July 2014, I interned with Breakthrough Birmingham as part of the Breakthrough Collaborative teaching fellowship program. Princeton Review ranks Breakthrough as one of the top 10 internships in the country. I was one of 23 students chosen for this paid internship. I made so many friends through the program, and I still keep in touch with many of them. Breakthrough is a nine-week internship where we taught underserved, high-achieving middle school students in Birmingham, Alabama. It was a summer enrichment program for the students, so these kids wanted to be there. My responsibilities included:

  • Teaching 7th grade Literature to high performing middle school students
  • Developing and changing curriculum to make material accessible to students
  • Increasing the reading levels for 9 out of 12 students by at least a year
  • Working in committees with instructional coaches and other teachers
  • Leading staff meetings and participated in weekly staff development

From October 2014 to February 2015, I was a Campus Recruiter at Auburn University for Breakthrough Collaborative. Interning at Breakthrough changed my life, and I wanted other students to experience what I did. I helped recruit the largest applicant pool in the history of the program. My responsibilities included:

  • Recruiting teaching fellows on Auburn University’s campus to apply to Breakthrough Collaborative
  • Participating in monthly training and development
  • Organizing and executing social media campaigns to generate interest in the summer internship

From May 2015 to October 2015, I interned with Verge Pipe Media. I was an account manager and handled two clients: Auburn University RFID Lab and Auburn University’s Harbert College of Business. This was my first taste of the public relations world, and it assured me that I chose the right major. My responsibilities included:

  • Account manager for Auburn University’s Harbert College of Business and the Auburn University Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Lab
  • Producing newsletters, blog posts, infographics and feature stories for both clients
  • Handling all social media accounts for both clients
  • Starting the RFID Lab Twitter and gained over 100 followers in three months
  • Participating in monthly client meetings

I am currently a strategic communications intern at Auburn Athletics. I have been interning here since January. As someone who wants to work in sports publicity one day, this was right up my alley. I get to work with the media relations department at one of the top college athletics programs in the country. It’s a dream come true. My responsibilities include:
